Research Your Next BRT Puppy
The internet is a fabulous tool, however, before buying a Black Russian Terrier puppy sight unseen - get to know this breed “hands-on”. You will need to meet a BRT to see if it is right for you. Talk to breeders and owners and meet as many Black Russians as you can. The cute, black ball of fur at 10 weeks will be well over 100 lbs when full grown. This is a 10-12 year commitment. The BRT is a wonderful breed but not suited for everyone. Selective breeding, proper training and adequate socialization make for a well-balanced temperament.

Accepted into the AKC as of July 1, 2004, the Black Russian Terrier is an outstanding breed, but the BRT is a high maintenance dog. They are large, long coated dogs that MUST be groomed on a regular basis. The BRT beard can hold a quart of water. With that said, BRT’s must be a part of your family. They do not do well in a kennel situation and cannot tolerate heat. BRT’s are not outside dogs.
